All elementary and secondary schools in the Wellington Catholic District School Board will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 4, due to a one-day strike.

The Ontario Elementary Catholic Teachers Association announced a one-day, province-wide full withdrawal of services for Feb. 4 on Tuesday afternoon.

"School safety in an inclusive environment remains of paramount importance to us. OECTA represents all of elementary and secondary teachers. As such, we would not be able to safely operate our schools. We will be proceeding to close our elementary and secondary schools to students for the duration of the walk-out on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, unless the strike is averted," said a notice on the WCDSB web site.

All transportation is also cancelled.

"We regret any disruption to student learning or inconvenience to families that will result from job action. We respect that the imposition of sanctions are a legal part of the collective bargaining process. Our actions during any sanctions will focus on the safety and well-being of the students entrusted to our care."

Elementary schools in the Upper Grand District School Board will also be closed Tuesday, and Thursday, unless a strike is avoided.
