An ACE weekend (8 photos)

Showcase of art and craft continues Sunday on York Road

Eric Allen Montgomery’s ACE (Art Craft Excellence) spring show and sale got underway Saturday at 404 York Road in the city.

The funky space was loaded throughout its many walls and corridors with inventive creations by local artists and artisans, and some from other southern Ontario communities. The event continues Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There is visual art, wooden furnishings, jewelry of all sort, decorative accents, stained glass, and handmade clothing, including a storehouse of one-of-a-kind hats by Guelph’s Noggins. Charlene Downey and Judy Witty make the lids in Guelph’s Ward neighbourhood.

“We’re just five minutes away,” said Downey. “This is our neighbourhood.”

She said Montgomery is noted for putting on some of the best art and craft shows anywhere.

“This is really about art,” Downey said. “It’s higher end stuff. The vibe in this space is just so inspiring. There are a lot of really fun and eccentric people, and lots of people have been coming through.

There is parking at the site. Traffic was heavy along York Street Saturday due to it being used as a detour around road work on Elizabeth Street. It should be lighter Sunday.

There are over 30 artisans and designers involved showing their original work.
