Art on the Street is bursting at the seams.

The 14th annual version of the popular event goes this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Carden Street as art of all shapes, sizes and disciplines takes over a closed off Quebec Street.

"It is a juried event and we do have more applications to participate than we have room for," said Guelph Arts Council executive director Patti Broughton.

The GAC puts on the event in partnership with the Downtown Guelph Business Association.

This year there will be 86 artists displaying their wares on the street and adjacent parking RBC parking lot. Everyting from oil paintings and button makers to jewellery makers and nature photography will be on display.

Because it is a selection process, Broughton said the quality of artists has also risen over the years.

"Definitely over the history of the event it has gone up significantly," she said.

The jury that selects the artists is also conscious of providing balance in the variety of art on display, Broughton said.

The GAC surveys the participants each year to tinker with the event to help make minor improvements.

"With every event you learn something," she said.

There will be a food truck at the event and the City of Guelph water wagon will also be there for people to refill their water bottles.
