It is becoming increasingly difficult to find an affordable place to rent in the Royal City.
In a snapshot for the April rental market the average price for a one bedroom rental in Guelph is $1,811 and a two bedroom is $2,179 according to a report from Rentals.ca.
The statistics are based off of monthly listings on Rentals.ca.
That's up from $1,729 in January, an increase of 4.5 per cent in four months.
Guelph is ranked the eighth most expensive city in Canada for rental prices. Just behind seventh place, Mississauga at $1,817 and sixth place Burnaby at $1,883 for a one bedroom.
Top ranking city in Canada is Vancouver at $2,334 for a one bedroom apartment and $3,324 for a two bedroom. In second place is Toronto at $2,065 for a one bedroom and $2,849 for a two bedroom. In third is Burlington, Ontario at $2,017 for a one bedroom and $2,261 for a two bedroom.
The national average in April 2021 was $1,676.
In a report by the city of Guelph they set the affordable rental benchmark at $1,295.
“The April 2021 rent figure was the lowest national average rate over the last four years, with the monthly results in 2022 close to pre-pandemic rent levels,” the report read.
