Beer Store customers in Guelph and surrounding areas put their empty cans and bottles to good use by raising $143,000 for Guelph General Hospital and North Wellington Health Care Centre.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, The Beer Store launched an empties return fundraiser across the province. Upon returning empties, residents were given the option to donate their proceeds to local organizations chosen by managers and store employees.

Since the fundraiser started on March 17, $2.3 million has been raised for health care centres and food banks across Ontario.

The Beer Store president, Ted Moroz, says customers have shown patience and generosity during these extraordinary times.

“To donate their returns in such large numbers clearly demonstrates how much they want to show their support for people working at local Health Centres and Foodbanks," says Moroz in the release, "They've demonstrated that we truly are all in this together."
