Charcoal Group is gearing up to open doors of its Guelph Beertown Public House on March 3.

“We’re really excited to open our doors in Guelph,” said Charcoal Group partner Jody Palubuski in a press release about the sixth restaurant in Charcoal Group’s banner.

The Charcoal Group is also opening new Beertown locations in Barrie and Toronto, giving them eight in total.

They also own eight other restaurants.

Palubuski said that the parent company has been working on finding a location in Guelph for nearly 15 years and the company has been fortunate to have many Guelph residents as local guests in Charcoal restaurants throughout the years.

The new 5,000 sqft building with 270 seats is currently completing construction on 433 Stone Rd. W., on the northwest corner of Edinburgh Road and Stone Road, in the Stone Road Mall parking lot.

“Guelph is close to our home base in Wellington County, so they may be familiar with the Charcoal Group and we believe there is understanding or trust in the experience we’ll provide them,” said Palubuski.

The new restaurant has an outdoor bocce ball court, 41 draught lines featuring several beers from local Guelph brewers, an exclusive kegged cocktail from Willibald Distillers and full plant-based and gluten-friendly menus.

“We try to make each Beertown location a little different from the others and individualize them,” said Palubuski.

“I feel like what we’re doing in Guelph is the next generation of Beertown. We’ve learned a lot over the years through our previous restaurants and are applying those learnings to what we’ve built here.”

The roots of the Charcoal Group can be traced back to 1956 with a 42-seat eatery now known as the Charcoal Steak House.
