Bill Nye the Science Guy coming to Guelph next month

Nye will answer questions, deliver a presentation and a special experiment for students and non-students

Bill Nye the Science Guy is coming to the University of Guelph next month.

In the event organized by the Central Student Association, Nye will deliver a presentation and a special experiment for students and non-students at the Athletics Event Centre at 7 p.m. on March 5.

The first part of the event will be a moderated discussion. The second part of the event will allow attendees to ask Nye questions during the question period. 

To enter the event, U of G students will need to present student ID and purchase a $15 ticket. non-U of G students are required to purchase a community member ticket for $50. Tickets can be purchased here.

Nye is an American science educator, engineer, comedian, television presenter, author and inventor. His mission is to foster a scientifically-literate society and to help people around the world understand and appreciate the science that makes the world work. 

His show, the Science Guy, ran from 1992 to 1998 and included 100 half-hour episodes for which Nye won seven national Emmy Awards for writing, performing and producing. The show won 18 Emmys in five years. To commemorate the series. He also wrote eight children’s books that weave real-world science in an accessible way for kids from elementary to middle school. 

Bill currently speaks at colleges regularly and discusses a variety of topical science matters on news and television programs such as ABC World News, NBC Nightly News, CNN, Good Morning America,  MSNBC, TODAY, CBS This Morning, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and more.
