All branches of the Guelph Public Library were evacuated Tuesday evening following a bomb threat.

No one was hurt and no devices were found in what library officials are calling a "false alarm," although police confirm that one person has been arrested.

Patrons and staff were asked to evacuate all library branches around 7:30 p.m Tuesday. It is believed the threat was discovered online by library staff, who then called police.

Guelph Police have few details and say the investigation is one that involves multiple jurisdictions.

"Yes, the library was evacuated due to a bomb threat. No concern for public safety at this point," said Guelph Police spokesperson Cst. Kyle Grant in an emailed reply to questions about the incident.

"This is a multi-jurisdictional investigation. The responsible person has been arrested in another region," he added.

Grant said more details will follow in a media release from that other region, likely on Thursday. He did not specify where that other region was.

Library CEO Steven Kraft said the incident was handled professionally by staff.

"I’m happy to say it was a false alarm," Kraft said Wednesday morning.

"The staff acted professionally, called the police, cleared the building and everyone is safe. We are relieved this wasn’t a real threat but nevertheless we are taking this opportunity to review and improve our procedures so that we are ready if/when another emergency occurs. The health and safety of the public and staff remains our number one priority," Kraft said via email.

The library is closed Wednesday for Remembrance Day.
