The Friends of the Guelph Public Library annual giant book sale goes this weekend, with over 100,000 items for sale.

It is the 12 year for the event, which takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the same location as last year, 69 Huron St. in the Ward.

Books, videos, DVDs, blu-rays, CDs, LPs, sheet music, audio books, games and puzzles. All proceeds go to the Guelph Public Library.

“This is one of, if not the largest book sale in Ontario,” said Virginia Gillham, Chair of the Friends of the Guelph Public Library, in a news release.

The event has raised more than $600,000.As usual, an early bird event takes place Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for those wanting first crack at what's available. Cost of the early entry is $10.

“A great deal of time and care goes into planning and preparing for the event, which shows in the organized layout and informative volunteers. Visitors will find it easy to locate those treasures they’re looking for and maybe find a few others along the way. We’ve received a record number of donations this year, which has kept us busy and may prove to be our most successful event yet.”

Organizers have been collecting donated items since early August and volunteers have spent a couple of months sorting and getting the books ready for display.

The sale also features a coffee shop by Joe Coffee and a children’s section of more than 15,000 items. Every child under 14, accompanied by an adult, can choose a free book from the children and young adults section.

Other highlights include:

- Vintage books and cookbooks

- Autographed books

- Selfie booth where visitors are encouraged to take pictures of themselves and their treasures and share it on social media

- Exclusive Friends of the Guelph Public Library tote bags at $3 each

Admission is free on Oct. 19 from 6 p.m. to 9pm; Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday most items are reduced to $1 each.
