The Guelph Liberals have chosen their successor to outgoing MPP Liz Sandals.

The local riding association announced Friday morning that Sly Castaldi, Executive Director of Guelph Wellington Women In Crisis for the past 14 years, will be their nominee for the provincial election this June.

"Sly has also played an active role in leading local partnerships and developing protocols to respond to domestic violence and sexual assault. As part of her commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in Guelph, Sly also chairs the board of directors for the Legal Clinic of Guelph and Wellington County and is a current Co-chair of the Premier’s Round-table on Violence Against Women. In recognition of her work‎ Sly was name Guelph's Woman of Distinction in Public Service in 2010 and she received the Queen's Jubilee Medal in 2012," says a press release from the local riding association.

Sandals announced late last year that she would be retiring from politics at the end of her current term.
