The Bookshelf presents: A Celebration of Performance Arts and Stage Craft, with Susan Benson, Patricia Flood and members of Guelph's performance arts community. Come and celebrate all things performance arts, stage craft and design at the Bookshelf's eBar.

On Friday, May 31 we are welcoming two incredible women with mile-long resumes in the technical side of theatre to our eBar stage!

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the event running from 7 - 10:30 p.m.

Television, film and theatrical designer Patricia Flood will be joined by legendary theatrical designer and artist Susan Benson. The reason? Patricia Flood recently took on the role of biographer and put together a visually stunning compilation of Susan's work entitled, Susan Benson: Art, Design and Craft on Stage.

It's a must-have for anyone interested in the performance arts, stage-craft, set and costume design, textiles and the artistry involved.

Join us for an evening of behind-the-scenes insight. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.

While the event is centred around these inspirational women, we wanted to add a little more drama to this already exciting evening.

We reached out to members of Guelph's vibrant theatre and performance arts community asking if they wanted to get involved. The response was a resounding YES!

They'll have booths set up in our Greenroom area where you can find out  what they are up to! This makeshift market will be open for business before, during and after the event. Stop by to find out more about upcoming shows, auditions, events, summer camps and more.

Plus, we'll be treated to a few very special sneak peek performances teasing upcoming productions, including a number from Guelph Little Theatre's 13 The Musical and a song from august Production's upcoming Chicago the Musical.

What's more? There will be a draw for cinema passes to see the film All is True directed by Kenneth Branagh, which imagines Shakespeare's retirement and return home to his family. The movie will play in the Bookshelf's Cinema from June 14 to the 20.

Thunderous applause for their active involvement goes to:

  • Firefly Books
  • The Bookshelf
  • Guelph Little Theatre
  • Royal City Musical Productions Inc.
  • august Productions Theatrical Inc.
  • The Making Box
  • The Downtown Theatre Project
  • Passionate Heart, Women's Stories through Dance

And keep it going for:

  • Pat the Dog Theatre Creation Playwright in Residence, Deanna Kruger for her support and encouragement.
  • University of Guelph Colleges of Arts, English and Theatre Studies

Tickets are $8 general, $6 students, seniors and members. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Bookshelf's Bookstore, or at the door upon entry.

Susan Benson: Art, Design and Craft on Stage is also available for purchase in advance or at the event.
