Centre Wellington chief administrative officer Andy Goldie is retiring.

Mayor Kelly Linton delivered what he called "the unfortunate news" to council at Monday's committee of the whole meeting.

Linton said he received Goldie's letter resignation at the end of last week.

His last day on the job will be Dec. 31, 2021.

Recruitment of a new CAO will occur over the next few months, said Linton.

Goldie's career in municipal service spans 33 years, almost 16 of those with the township of Centre Wellington. Prior to that, he worked as director of recreation for the City of Guelph.

“The decision to retire was a very difficult one as it has been an honour to serve council and the residents of Centre Wellington as the Township’s CAO” said Goldie in a press release. “The senior leadership team is an exceptional group of talented and dedicated staff.

"Our equally hard working township staff go above and beyond to provide the best possible service to our residents. I am truly blessed to work in such a cohesive and supportive environment. Being the Township’s CAO has been an extremely rewarding experience.”

“On behalf of council and staff, I want to sincerely thank Mr. Goldie for his dedication to our township, and applaud him on an outstanding career” said Linton in the release.

“Andy’s professionalism, desire to accomplish great things for our community and Township team over the years has been instrumental in the success we have had. Over the years, I have continued to be amazed and appreciative of Andy’s inspired and consistent leadership. There is no question in my mind that we would not have accomplished these impressive results without him. Andy and I forged a very strong Mayor-CAO partnership, and I will personally miss working with him. We wish Andy all the best in his next chapter.”
