Centre Wellington firefighter seriously injured after fire truck goes into ditch (5 photos)

A fire truck went into a ditch outside of Elora resulting in a man being airlifted to a trauma centre

CENTRE WELLINGTON – A firefighter is in serious but stable condition after a fire truck went into a ditch just outside Elora Tuesday morning.

The Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue vehicle went off the road on Side Road 10 near Wellington Road 7, just north of Salem.

Fire chief Tom Mulvey said in an interview the Elora station was called to alarm conditions at a building on Side Road 10. When responding to the call, he said the rescue truck somehow ended up in a ditch and against a tree which trapped the firefighter.

Wellington OPP media officer Joshua Cunningham said in a Twitter video one firefighter was airlifted to a trauma centre via an Ornge helicopter. He said they are stable but in serious condition.

Mulvey said the firefighter is being assessed at a trauma centre in Hamilton but the injuries aren't life threatening.

Side Road 10 remains closed while investigators, including the Ministry of Labour, investigate the cause of the crash.
