NEWS RELEASE

GUELPH RIGHT TO LIFE ASSOCIATION

*************************
Matt Mooney and his organization – 99 Balloons – are working to change the story of disability.

On February 18, he’ll be sharing his story in Guelph.

Matt’s work was inspired by his son Eliot, who was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 (also known as Edward’s Syndrome) while still in the womb.

Doctors predicted that he would not make it to birth.

Defying the odds, Eliot was born and lived for 99 days – much longer than was expected.

Matt and his wife Ginny celebrated each day they had with him, and marked the end of his short life by releasing 99 balloons into the sky.

This inspired Matt to start the 99 Balloons organization, whose mission is to build inclusive communities so that people with disabilities and their families can lead full lives.

They have started the ‘rEcess’ respite program that assists churches in supporting the families of children with disabilities.

They have also produced a documentary series that highlights the struggles of people with disabilities around the world.

Matt Mooney will be speaking about disability, inclusion, and end-of life care in a free talk that is open to the public.

The event will take place at Priory Park Church (8 Torch Lane, Guelph) on February 18, starting at 7 p.m.
