A charge of aggravated assault against the son of Guelph's former Police Chief has been withdrawn.

The charge against Bradley Larkin of Waterloo was withdrawn in the Ontario Court of Justice on Monday, court officials confirmed.

Bradley Larkin is the adult son of Bryan Larkin, the former Guelph Police Chief and who left to become Police Chief for the Waterloo Region Police last year.

The charge stemmed from an incident in downtown Guelph on Nov. 26, 2015, that sent a 35-year-old man to hospital in critical condition.

At the time Guelph Police reported that there was a violent confrontation in downtown Guelph at roughly 11:30 p.m. on a Thursday night that resulted in a man striking his head on the pavement during a struggle with another man.

The injured man was taken to Hamilton General Hospital in critical condition. That was later downgraded to serious.
