Guelph city council approved a new commercial plaza for the northwest corner of the Gordon Street/Lowes Road intersection on Monday night.

The development will feature a two-storey, 1,770 square-meter building on a 0.43-hectare site. The second floor of the building will be apartments.

Part of the agreement with the developer will see them pay a cost of an eventual left turn lane from southbound Gordon Street onto Lowes Road. The developer will also be responsible for sidewalks surrounding the lot.

The project will bring in $175,000 in development charges and $30,000 a year in tax revenue.
