Guelph City Council is getting an excellent report card from its integrity commissioner.
Robert Swayze's annual report to council said he received "no complaints and carried out no investigations" in either 2015. He also received none in 2014.
"Having no investigations for two years is a credit to the conduct of all members of Council during those two years," Swayze wrote in his report, which will be received by council at Monday's meeting.
Swayze, who also serves as integrity commissioner for several other municipalities, is paid a $5,000 annual retainer and billed the city $6,174 for 25.2 hours of work in 2015 at $245 per hour.
His activity in the past year included giving legal opinions to the city clerk and two consultation matters for two members of council regarding confidential matters.
"In my experience as integrity commissioner for five years and as external OMB counsel to the city for the previous five years, the city has a very active citizen base. The Code of Conduct establishes rules and ethics for councillors to follow and constitutes an offer to all citizens of the City of Guelph to file complaints if any of them feel that any member of council or local board has failed to follow the code.
"The current council deserves congratulations for compliance with the Code of Conduct and displaying accountability and transparency in carrying out their duties."
Swayze's five-year term expires at the end of the month.
