The meeting of Guelph City Council scheduled for March 30 has been cancelled.

Although no official announcement has been posted on the City of Guelph web site and the city's meeting schedule still includes the meeting, Mayor Cam Guthrie announced on Twitter that he had cancelled the meeting.

The mayor released the information to the public in a tweet that was responding to a story about Coun. Phil Allt being concerned about democracy being "truncated" because he wouldn't be able to attend the March 30 meeting because he would be self-isolating following a vacation to Mexico.

Guthrie shared an email he sent to council, the city clerk and the executive team:

"Based on the decision from the Premier this morning, with no gatherings of 50 or more, I must now cancel the 30th council meeting as well. I'll work with clerks to determine another time to meet to ratify our committee decisions of March."

There were a couple of hot ticket motions on the agenda for the 30th – regarding fenced in dog parks and a west end development – that could have pushed attendance in council chambers beyond 50.
