City extends CAO's contract

Council votes unanimously to extend Derrick Thomson's contract

City Council voted unanimously Monday afternoon to extend the contract of Chief Administrative Officer Derrick Thomson by one more year.

His contract now runs until April 30, 2020.

Council voted unanimously to extend the contract. Two councillors, Leanne Piper and Andy Van Hellemond, were not present.

Thomson makes $230,000 per year and receives an $800 per month car allowance.

Thomson joined the city's executive team in 2013, was named a deputy CAOin 2014 and was named CAO in June of 2016.

According to the city web site, n 2017, his total taxable earnings were $278,614.

"This includes base salary; a one-time $20,128 stipend related to his work as lead negotiator for the Guelph Hydro-Alectra merger; $11,236 in taxable benefits and allowance such as automobile allowance; and $17,250 from a lump-sum vacation pay-out for 136.5 unused vacation hours," says the city web site.
