NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF GUELPH

*************************
The City of Guelph invites professional artists and artist teams to submit proposals for its 2017 Artist in Residence program.

The successful artist/team will develop an innovative and thought-provoking project that engages the community and encourages reflection of Guelph’s history in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday and the City’s 190th anniversary.

“The shape and form the project takes is really up to the artist,” says Stacey Dunnigan, the City’s manager of Culture and Tourism. “The end result could be anything from a temporary installation, to a digital collection, or a live performance. The main goal is to achieve a shared artistic experience with the community while animating public space.”

The program is open to all art forms, including visual, literary or performing arts, architecture and design, or media arts such as sound, video or photography. Artists should note this is not a live-in residency, and the $6,000 budget is inclusive of all components of the project.

Professional artists or artist teams with a history of public presentation, community building, exhibition and/or publishing experience are invited to apply by March 13.

About the City of Guelph Artist in Residence program

The City’s Artist in Residence program, guided by the Council-approved Public Art Advisory Committee, offers opportunities for artists to engage the public and showcase their creative practices while broadening the community’s experience of the arts.

Animating public space—indoor, outdoor or online—is an integral part of the program and contributes to placemaking and civic pride.
