City staff recommending 10 parking spots for Western Hotel

Hotel wants 10 spots in the parkade for overnight guests

Staff is asking Guelph City Council to approve a move that will give the Western Hotel Executive Suites on Macdonell Street 10 parking spots in the downtown parkade.

The recommendation will be dealt with at Monday's meeting of council.

The parking spots, which the hotel will pay market rates for, are to be used by customers staying at the hotel overnight.

The plan calls for a five year commitment to the parking spots. In 2015 the hotel was allowed the 10 spots on a one-year trial basis. Staff is now recommending it be extended for another five years.

There are currently roughly 250 people on a waiting list for a downtown monthly parking spot.

The report going to council on Monday says that tracking shows the parking spots are being used almost exclusively overnight, not during the day.

The Western Hotel Executive Suites has 20 suites in the four-storey building. The parking passes are to be used only by guests, not staff.
