Commercial development taking shape at Gordon and Clair

Several businesses have now moved into Neighbourhood Commercial Shopping Centre

The land is not vacant anymore.

Anyone motoring through south end Guelph at Gordon Street and Clair Road East will notice that a large, prime piece of real estate that sat vacant for a number of years – while commercial, residential and office development sprung up around it – is now far from vacant.

Announced just over a year ago, a major shopping centre is taking shape at the location across from Pergola Commons, on the northeast corner of Gordon and Clair. CP Reit’s Neighbourhood Commercial Shopping Centre began with a Zehr’s Market at the north section of the property.

Now, several other buildings are up, some occupied, others close to being occupied. The work is ongoing through the winter.

The building in the northwest corner of the property is fully occupied, with a Tim Hortons, a First Choice Hair Cutters, and a Pet Valu among the shops.

At the opposite end, a Freshii fast-food franchise, along with Orangetheory Fitness are in business. Nearby, a St. Louis Bar & Grill is moving in, and down from that a building permit taped to a window indicates a BarBurrito location is coming.

There is a lot more room for several more businesses to move in, as other spaces near completion.

The south end of the city has grown by hundreds of new homes and thousands of residents in recent years. Several residential developments are ongoing within walking distance of the new shopping centre.
