Construction has begun on what will be a major change for Highway 6 commuters, just south of Guelph.
Crews are on scene working on a new midblock interchange on the Hanlon, between Maltby Road and Wellington Road 34.
According to the MTO, the 'early works' portion of the project involves building the interchange, as well as a road to connect Concession Road 7 and Wellington Road 34 to the interchange. Drainage improvements are also part of the plan.
After that work is complete, the next stage of the project will see the removal of the signalled intersection at the Hanlon and Wellington Road 34. An overpass will be built over the Hanlon in its place.
The intersection at Maltby Road and Concession Road 4 will close, and a new roundabout will go in at Wellington Road 34 and Concession Road 7.
Single-lane closures are anticipated through the construction process.
Work is expected to finish in late 2025.
