Road widening and reconstruction efforts are coming to a busy section of Speedvale Avenue beginning later this month and continuing through the summer, but one lane is to be kept open heading in each direction much of the time.
The latest effort is focused on the area where east meets west, around the intersection with Woolwich Street – from Glenwood Avenue to east of the Guelph Junction Railway tracks.
Crews will be working to widen Speedvale Avenue, along with the installation of new sidewalks or multi-use paths and underground infrastructure such as sanitary and storm sewers.
“This work is important as we prepare to be future ready and meet the demands of Guelph’s growing population, and we appreciate your patience, understanding and cooperation,” states a post on the city’s website, which notes “every effort” will be made to maintain access to driveways.
“Construction activities and equipment movement may temporarily impact access to private property and delays should be expected. Access to driveways may be restricted and residents and businesses will be required to park on the side streets.”
A variety of lane reductions and delays should be expected in the project area.
They include the closure of two Speedvale Avenue lanes throughout the effort, with one kept open heading in each direction. A full closure isn’t currently planned.
Similarly, Woolwich will be reduced to one lane in each direction on both sides of the intersection.
A full road closure is needed between Speedvale Avenue East, from Woolwich to Riverview Drive, in order to upgrade utilities under the railway tracks. A date for that hasn’t been set just yet, but the post notes that work will be done during a weekend.
