COUNTY OF WELLINGTON - County council purchased the former Mundell Lumber property including the Historic Grist Mill, in the Town of Erin, for the new library.

At Thursday’s meeting, the county council formally agreed to buy the land in Erin to use for the construction of a new library. Following the closed session, Warden Kelly Linton announced council also directed staff to pursue affordable housing options to be built on the property.

“This is another great example of collaboration and strong partnerships that has become a County of Wellington staple,” said Linton.

“I want to thank the Town of Erin for working with the county so we can develop this unique property for the residents of Erin.”

Erin and the county have been planning for years to replace the current library at 14 Boland Dr. with a new one in a better location for better access for residents.

The new library has been included in the 2022 county budget – $4 million has been attributed to the development of the branch. Work this year includes property acquisition and the design for the construction of a new branch.

“This development is going to be fantastic for the Town of Erin,” commented Erin mayor Allan Alls.

“Residents have been looking forward to the redevelopment of this property for years, and the opportunity to build housing for those with more modest needs in our community is something we’ve needed for a long time.”

The County will continue to provide updates on this development as they become available.
