Crash jams traffic on Hanlon

Serious damage, but no injuries.

A late morning crash on the Hanlon Expressway jammed up southbound traffic.

A gray, early-model Pontiac Vibe got the worst of the collision, sustaining major front end damage. The focus of the impact appeared to be on the passenger side.

The hood of the car was buckled and the bumper molding torn off in an impact with a black, late-model GMC Terrain pick-up truck. The truck was struck in the driver’s side rear wheel area, and had fender, box, and wheel damage. Both vehicles had to be towed.

The vehicles were in the southbound lanes of the Hanlon, the equivalent of a city block from the Kortright Road intersection. Traffic was heavy.  The Vibe was spun around by the impact and pointing north. It appears the drivers of the two vehicles were the only occupants, and neither was injured.

The collision reduced traffic to one lane near the scene, where a Guelph Fire Department truck and an OPP cruiser were parked with lights flashing. The roadway was littered with debris, including the bumper molding and various shards of plastic.

The driver of the Vibe was seen filling out an incident report while sitting in the rear hatch of the vehicle.  The crash happened around 10:30 a.m.
