Guelph is losing a top staff member.

The city announced Monday that Derrick Thomson, the city's Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Public Services, is quitting to take a job in Caledon.

Thomson, who lives in Caledon, will become the Town of Caledon's General Manager of Community Services.

His last day in Guelph is June 3.

“Derrick has told me this is the right move for him,” says Guelph’s Chief Administrative Officer Ann Pappert said in a news release. “But that doesn’t mean we’ll miss him any less. Derrick has made several important contributions to our city in his time here. We’re sorry to see him go, and we wish him tremendous success in Caledon.”

Thomson joined the City of Guelph in 2013.

“Working for the community of Guelph and with the talented men and women of this organization has been a privilege,” Thomson said in a press release.

“My decision wasn’t easy. But at the end of the day, I’m looking forward to making a contribution in my home town. Caledon has been home to my family and me for several years. The chance to make a difference there is one I can’t turn down.”
