Fake Microsoft security scam

Recently we have seen an increase in fake Microsoft scams, which function by tricking people into thinking that their PC is infected.

With these types of scams there are a number of things to remember:

    •    Microsoft will never call or email you telling you that your PC is infected
    •    Never allow strangers to connect to your PC
    •    Do not give any credit card info
    •    Do not click unknown links or start unknown removal tools
    •    If in doubt, shut down your PC

This will either be a phishing scam, trying to get your personal information or an attempt to infect your computer with a virus.

If you think you or someone you know has been a victim of fraud, please contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or report online.
