DOWNTOWN THEATRE PROJECT

The Downtown Theatre Project is back with more live theatre, right in the heart of Guelph. Bug is a psychological thriller by Tracy Letts, also known for Killer Joe and August: Osage County.
The play follows the story of a damaged war veteran who holes up with a lonely woman in an isolated Oklahoma motel. The line between reality and delusion is blurred as they discover a bug infestation that breeds a darker story of paranoia, control and revenge.
“There are some scary moments,” says Bug director Tim Clarke, who is a co-producer with the company. “It’s not a horror show, but it’s creepy, intense, and unflinching.
“The play is oddly relevant to what’s happening in our cultural shift toward an alternate, post-truth reality,” adds Clarke. “It warns us that once we accept that facts don’t matter, there’s no turning back.”
Bug runs Oct. 31 to Nov 4, onstage at The Making Box, 43 Cork St. E. in Guelph. Evenings at 8 p.m., Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. Seating is limited. Tickets are $25 here.

The Downtown Theatre Project brings its second production to the Making Box stage with Bug, on the heels of All New People last spring. These local artists are taking theatre in new directions, and smaller spaces, offering intimate live performances in downtown Guelph.
