An eight-storey apartment building is being proposed for what was the longtime home of Hamilton's Garage in the city's south end.
The proposal is for 1354 Gordon St., on the southeast corner of the Gordon Street/Arkell Road intersection.
The developer is registered as 1354 Gordon Street Inc.
The development would include an 88-unit apartment complex, a Petro-Canada gas station and other commercial use at ground level.
The proposal includes 59 above-ground parking spots and 153 underground parking spots on the site, which is 1.5 acres of developable land.
The Hamilton family, which owned the land since the 1830s, operated a business at the location for 87 years before closing Hamilton's Corner Garage in 2016.
For years the site was home to Hamilton's Corner Garage, which specialized in used Volvos and had a reputation across North America as one of the go-to spots for used Volvo parts.
The developer of the site is seeking an amendment to the city's Official Plan and a zoning bylaw amendement to allow the development.
The Official Plan amendment sought is to allow an eight story building in a neighbourhod commercial designation and the zoning bylaw amendment application is seeking to rezone the lands from the current urban reserve zoning to specialized general apartment with site-specific provisions.
A public meeting on the proposal will be scheduled at a later date at a planning meeting of city council prior to any recommendation from staff or council decision.
