Money and mentorship are available through the collaborative program now in its fourth round of funding

Money and mentorship is available for those who have an idea that could make Guelph a better place.

The Elevator Project, a collaboration between 10 Carden, City of Guelph, Innovation Guelph and the Gueph Community Health Centre, will kick off its fourth round of projects at an information session Feb. 15 at 10 Carden from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Individuals, groups and private businesses with a community improvement idea, big or small, can apply for funding and benefit from mentorship and advice from various aspects of the community through the program if your idea is accepted. The main requirement is that the idea is a project that is of benefit to the community.

"In the past we've had big ideas and small ideas," said Gabrielle Clermont, community animator with The Elevator Project. "Everything from botanical gardens, poverty reduction, environmental, arts and culture, food safety."

Clermont said the first three rounds of The Elevator Project saw 49 local projects out of 110 applicants receive a total investment of $294,000.

"We've seen it evolve over the years. We've seen more refinement in the ideas and more money available," she said.

Last round saw 75 per cent of applications get the go-ahead.

While the initial launch is Feb. 15, three new "idea lab" workshops are planned for Feb 22, 23 and 25 that will allow those with project ideas to bounce them off mentors and potential investors who will offer advice and perhaps some guidance on the initial ideas.

"Some people have an idea but have no idea if it's a good one or not," Clermont said of the benefit of the idea labs.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP online by following the “Events” tab on the Elevator Project website.
