Elizabeth Street from Victoria Road to Industrial Avenue is closed to eastbound traffic.

Elizabeth Street is now thoroughly under construction, with traffic restrictions for the next four weeks or so between Victoria Road and Industrial Avenue. There is no eastbound access to the section of street. Detours are in place.

Heavy equipment rolled onto the street last week, tearing up the blacktop and digging up the infrastructure.

Design work began on the reconstruction of the section of the street back in 2014, with plans incorporating enhancements to sanitary, water and storm servicing, as well as the installation of curbs, gutters, bicycle lanes and sidewalks on both sides of Elizabeth.

The work is being carried out in two phases, with phase one, a section of Elizabeth between Stevenson Street N and Victoria Road completed last year. Phase two began last week.

Truck traffic is being rerouted around the section of the city via Stone Road, Watson Parkway, and Speedvale Avenue.

Elizabeth Street at Victoria Road N. is now closed. Westbound lanes have been reduced on the section for the length of the construction period.

The intersection is expected to be partially reopened in each direction by early May, but not fully reopened until the beginning of June.

According to a city press release, all efforts will be made to maintain access to residences and businesses during the project. Alternative parking and access will be made available when the street is blocked by the work, with instructions posted on how to access businesses.

Guelph Transit service will be maintained, but detoured, and there will be no disruption to city services such as waste collection.
