Note: The University of Guelph has corrected earlier information. Neither of those arrested was a student at the school. An earlier version of this story said one of the two was not a student.

As many as 1,000 people turned out for a party on Johnston Green at the University of Guelph Friday evening, officials confirm, noting the size of the crowd varied throughout the incident.

The gathering led to two arrests, says Lori Bona Hunt, the university’s director of integrated communications.

One person was cited for intoxication and causing a disturbance and one was charged with interfering and aiding escape from lawful custody. Neither are students at the school, the U of G says.

There were also reports of empty beer cans being thrown at campus police, she noted.

“There were no associated injuries,” Hunt said via email, noting “most” of the weekend calls were related to that gathering.

“The campus safety office continually monitors/responds to gatherings and activities on campus, both indoors and outdoors; it only tracks major gatherings and citations/arrests,” she added.

During the weekend, campus police issued 15 liquor infraction tickets and two trespass notices for non-students.
