Guelph’s Peoples Party of Canada (PPC) candidate Josh Leier will be holding a fight for freedom rally on Sunday in place of his party's admission to public debates.

Leier was one of the candidates not invited to the first public debate on Thursday organized by the Chamber of Commerce and was not invited to next week's Climate Crisis and Social Justice: Virtual Town Hall.

Leier said when it came to the exclusions for the debate, the only response he received was a blanket statement saying because PPC federal candidate Maxime Bernier is not at the federal debates the electoral district level candidates will not be invited to debates.

PPC candidates are excluded from federal public debates as the party has not crossed the critical threshold to meet one of three criteria laid out by the debate consortium.

“We haven’t had many opportunities to get our name out there, not a lot of coverage, we are not invited to the debates, so one of the things I want to do for the community is spread some of the ideas that we are trying to promote and host a fight for freedom rally,” said Leier.

The event, which will be hosted on private property, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

The location of the event has yet to be revealed, however, Leier said his party will release the address when the event is at hand.

“It’s unfortunate we couldn’t do it in a public place,” said Leier. “I don’t totally understand why as we had all the insurance and all the fees ready to go.”

One of Leier’s main campaign points is his stance against the creation of vaccine passports.

“It seems to be one of the most critical issues in this upcoming election that is just not getting the focus it should be for the slippery slope these passports are,” said Leier.
