The first Feminist Creative Market was such a success, another one will be held this Friday.

Almost 40 vendors are expected at the Feminist Spring Market, which takes place Friday, April 27, on the 4th floor of 10C Shared Space at 42 Carden St.

The all-inclusive pay-what-you-can event will feature a variety of artisans, makers, creatives, small businesses, activists and non-profits, all committed to an event that supports and showcases women (cis and trans), non-binary, queers, BIPOC and people with disabilities, says organizer Siyobin Blanco.

“Basically, as soon as we decided to do the holiday market in November, there was so much interest from vendors that we knew we would have to run another one, we sold out so quickly,” Blanco said.

Blanco is the founding director of the Feminist Creative Collective that is behind the market.

The Feminist Creative Collective was started to create hub of feminism, community and activism, Blanco said.

“I’m a vendor and I’ve been to a lot of different markets and just felt that a lot of the time it was just focused on the product and every vendor was on their own.

“There just wasn’t a sense of community and it wasn’t always welcoming for all the guests,” Blanco said. “I met a lot of other people that felt the same way.”

On the Feminist Creative Collective web site it states: “We strive to support each other through showcasing each other’s talent, giving advice, hosting meet-ups, networking events and discounts between members; supporting those that have been oppressed and shedding light on their work.”

Blanco said the vendor application for the market asked potential vendors what feminism meant to them and why it was important.

“Just to make sure all of our vendors have a more developed sense of feminism,” Blanco said.

It establishes a collective, inclusive and supportive environment for the event, she said.
