Guelph PC candidate Ray Ferraro said that a Tory government would bring back the Slots at Racetracks Program cancelled by the Liberals.

SARP was cancelled in 2013 after 14 years. It took funds from the slots and used it to help support the horse racing industry, including tracks in Grand River Raceway in Elora, Flamboro Downs and Mohawk, primarily by increasing purses.

“Without warning, Kathleen Wynne and the Liberals killed the Slots-at-Racetrack Program,

destroying the horse racing industry. Andrea Horwath and the NDP sat on their hands and allowed this to happen,” said Ferraro in a news release.

“An Ontario PC government is going to work to bring this program back, and help horse racing and horse people in our surrounding areas, many of whom are residents of Guelph thrive and grow.”

The Ontario PCs will launch a working group to consult with the horse racing community and gaming proponents to bring slots back to racetracks as quickly possible, Ferraro’s press release said.

“Only the Ontario PCs are committed to bringing this important program back. The NDP are waffling and refusing to commit.”
