Col. John McCrae leads a group of seven historically-significant Canadians in a new made in Guelph online comic book.

The first eight pages of an online historical comic book featuring Col. John McCrae is available for viewing.

Group of 7 is researched, written and drawn by Guelph Chris Sanagan and Jason Lapidus.

The first instalment of the online comic can be viewed here.

In the comic, McCrae leads six significant historical figures in an elite and secret World War I fighting unit that goes on a secret mission to help the allied cause at the battle of Vimy Ridge.

The other six team members are Francis Pegahmagabow, A.Y. Jackson, Norman Bethune, Frederick Banting, Lester Pearson, Conn Smythe

All seven actually served in World War I in various capacities.

"It's fictional history but you can flesh it out with real people, real events. But first and foremost it's fun," Sanagan said in an earlier interview about the project.

New instalments will be released weekly.

"I often think about it as an 80s super hero comic book. But with Canadian historical figures," Sanagan said.

One of hopes and goals of the work is that it will motivate people to learn more about historical figures and facts, with links being provided on the story's website.
