City staff have begun building the Market Square skating rink and the city hopes to have it up and running this weekend.

Flooding started on Wednesday morning and layers are being added by hose.

Deputy CAO Colleen Clack said if Mother Nature cooperates the rink could be open on the weekend. The city website will have updates on the status of the Market Square rink.

Staff needs several days of temperatures near 0 C or lower with little precipitation in order to build the popular rink.

Temperatures are expected to stay below zero for the foreseeable future, with lows of -15 C predicted for early next week.
