April 2, 2020 - Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health confirms the first COVID-19 death in Guelph – an individual in their 80s. Out of respect for the family of deceased, no further information will be provided on the individual at this time.

“I speak on behalf of all of us at WDG Public Health to convey our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health and CEO of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health. “I am sorry we have such a tragic reminder of how dangerous COVID-19 is and how much we all need to take measures such as social distancing and staying home while finding other ways to support each other and our communities.”

WDG Public Health will continue work with health care providers, hospitals and long-term care providers during these unprecedented times.
