NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF GUELPH
*************************
The leaves have shown their true colours and are now dropping in droves across lawns and sidewalks—but how do you get rid of them?
There are five free ways you can get rid of leaves this fall:
Mulch them and leave them on your lawn
Grass and leaves from your fall yard clean up are full of nutrients and make great mulch for your lawn and gardens. Use your mower to break the leaves into small pieces. Scatter them evenly on your lawn or garden to promote healthy soil and plants.
Top up your green bin
If you clean up a little each week by topping up your green cart, we’ll dispose of them for free and your lawn will be leaf-free.
Bag them and put them out with your grey cart
Bagged yard waste pick up will run the weeks of November 4 and November 11, whichever falls on your normal grey cart week. Bag up leaves and yard waste, place them to the curb and we’ll take care of the rest.
Rake them to the curb
If all else fails, we’ll come and pick up leaves from the curb between November 11–22. Please put your leaves to the curb no earlier than November 9, or they become a safety and flooding hazard. If we missed your neighbourhood, you can submit at service request after November 23 by calling 519-837-5628 or emailing [email protected].
Drop them off at the Waste Resource Innovation Centre
If your leaves drop late in the season, after all our programs wrap up, you can bag them and take them to the Waste Resource Innovation Centre for free. Check our hours online at guelph.ca/waste.
