For the love of crepes and coffee

Crepes & Coffee was inspired by 18 trips to Europe within 18 months

Guelph’s west end has its very own European-inspired cafe, complete with a heartwarming love story.

Crepes & Coffee opened its doors in June, and has received a warm welcome from customers for its unique re-creation of the idyllic European cafe.

Taylor Beech, co-owner of Crepes & Coffee, said that he started thinking of opening the coffee shop when he realized that the fast-growing west end in particular needed a spot to grab quality coffee.

Beech and his girlfriend Marta's whirlwind love story set the stage for the Crepes & Coffee, which was inspired by 18 trips to Europe within 18 months.

“We created the restaurant as an homage to the European travelling that we had just finished,” said Beech.

Marta received an opportunity to go to Switzerland for her dream job. Beech ended up travelling every month to spend time in Europe, where they’d take four day weekends and travel around the world’s most romantic locales.

She ended up returning to Canada in December, and the work began on creating the most romantic cafe in Guelph.

“We wanted to recreate the cool elements that we experienced along our travels in Europe,” said Beech, who shared that with the new condominiums being built on Paisley, it seemed like the perfect time to create a cafe that new residents could easily walk to.

The cafe features music discovered at a club in Amsterdam, coffee that was served in Budapest, mouth-watering crepes inspired by their time in Switzerland, and sauce imported from England.

“All the names on the menu are names of towns in Europe,” said Beech, who carefully created a cafe full of happy memories.

Since opening customers have offered positive responses on Facebook reviews, Instagram, and Google reviews.

The cafe also has an app, available through iTunes, called Crepes and Coffee Rewards. Repeat customers can earn points towards free products, and 400 customers have already joined, said Beech.

Beech also owns Vitality Fitness, which he launched in 2004. Vitality Fitness and Crepes & Coffee are in the newly built business complex, located at 904 Paisley Road.
