Before they hit the road, one organization is giving away free bicycle helmets to children across Guelph and Wellington County.

The Lidz on Kidz campaign is presented by the Brain Injury Association of Waterloo Wellington (BIAWW) and McLeish Orlando Lawyers. It aims to create awareness around bicycle safety and get helmets into the hands of kids who need them most.

Throughout the month of May, helmets will be distributed to six areas throughout Waterloo Region and Wellington County. The campaign will be in Fergus on May 14 and in Guelph on May 15. Helmets will also be distributed in Mount Forest at a later date.

The BIAWW explains it will be using the same contactless pickup system used in 2021 to deliver the helmets to kids. It adds they had many event sponsors help make the six locations possible, including the Rotary Guelph-Trillium and the Guelph Community Foundation.
