It will be at least another year before the future of a dormant Anglican church on Guelph's east side is known.
St. David and St. Patrick Anglican Church at 520 Speedvale Avenue East has been vacant since last June, when the Anglican Diocese of Niagara formed a partnership with St. Paul's Lutheran Church and moved the congregation to that church's on Silvercreek Parkway North.
St. David and St. Patrick church is not for sale, as the diocese said it will wait until its two-year deal with St. Paul's ends in 2017 before making a decision on the property.
The Speedvale property is not currently for sale and the Anglican Diocese of Niagara does not anticipate making any decisions about the future use of the property until an evaluation has been undertaken about this new ministry partnership," said Rev. Bill Mous, Director of Justice, Community and Global Ministries and the communications coordinator with the Anglican DIocese of Niagara.
"We anticipate an evaluation will be conducted closer to the conclusion of the two-year partnership agreement which will inform how the diocese proceeds with regards to the property," said Mous via e-mail.
St. David and St. Patrick was built in 1966.
The diocese recently sold its former St. Mathias Church property on Kortright Road to developers.
Mous said Guelph's Anglican community continues to be well served.
"This innovative partnership, deeply rooted in the full communion of the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, invites both communities to live, work, and pray together with the hope that they are able to enter into a permanent shared-ministry relationship." Mous said.
