Guelph Humane Society (GHS) Happily Ever After Gala, presented by Dr. Barry White and Family, returned for a second year and raised a total of $267,800 for the society on Saturday night at the Delta Guelph.

The sold-out crowd of 300 guests celebrated GHS’ “Happy Tails” while raising $267,800 for vulnerable animals in our community. The proceeds will support homeless and neglected animals in Guelph and Wellington County and help the Humane Society create second chances for abandoned animals

An event highlight was the Fund-a-Need in support of the new building, raising $89,400 by 97 donors within approximately 10 minutes. This amount was matched by an anonymous donor that evening, doubling the impact of the Fund-a-Need. Construction on the new building at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd. has begun with expected completion Fall 2020.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the attendees. We are so fortunate to have so many people who feel strongly about the need to support animals, and the people who love them in our community,” said Adrienne McBride, Executive Director of GHS.

This year, the GHS Gala theme of “Happily Ever After” celebrated GHS “Happy Tails” – stories of animals who have been saved thanks to GHS, which is only possible thanks to donor support.

The theme was brought to life by several GHS pets including kittens, baby rabbits, dogs, including special guest, Bentley, who benefitted from orthopedic surgery while staying with GHS. The gala was energetically emceed by The Happily Ever After Gala Honourary Chair, Ryan Truscott.

GHS relies solely on donor support for everyday operations to lifesaving surgeries. GHS holds the City of Guelph animal control contracts which is a fee for service. It does not profit from these contracts, and they do not fund the charitable operations for GHS. The GHS is grateful to all those who participated in this year’s Happily Ever After Gala, for their ongoing help in creating ‘Happy Tails’ for neglected animals in the community.
