NEWS RELEASE

WHEELS OF HOPE

*************************
The 31st annual Wheels of Hope Golf Classic, hosted on July 10 at Cutten Fields raised $120,000, all of which will be donated directly to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Wheels of Hope program for Guelph and Wellington County.

Wheels of Hope provides free transportation for cancer patients to and from their medical appointments. Many of these patients rely on the program to get through treatment. The volunteers not only provide rides, but also friendship and support during some of the most difficult days these patients face.

Tournament Chair Martha Jakowlew expressed her delight in raising $120,000 for the Wheels of Hope Program and announced that Fred Booth will succeed her as chair of the long-standing tournament in 2018.

In her closing remarks, Jakowlew said, "I am proud that this event has raised nearly $500,000 over the past four years and I am honoured to pass the baton to Fred." She also thanked the many longtime sponsors, volunteers and players for their support.

The tournament’s overall champion was Greg Heffernan. The men’s low gross champion was Mike Harding and Beryl Carrigan once again won ladies’ low gross.

Next year’s tournament will take place on July 23 at Cutten Fields.
