A local business is coming out with a new product to raise awareness about youth homelessness.
The Guelph Box will be launching a box for a new initiative called Summer Box for Shelters.
Summer Box for Shelters will feature educational materials and local products from Happy Era Waffles, Laza Food and Beverage, Pressed for Time Panini's, Mini Doughs and The Scented Market.
Priced at $79.99, a portion of box sale proceeds will go toward the Wyndham House and youth homelessness. Boxes from Summer Box for Shelters are available for purchase here starting June 24 at 5 p.m.
With a limited supply of boxes, the Guelph Box is aiming to raise $500 now until late July. All boxes will be delivered on July 28.
“Our goal is to sell the 100 in the month,” said Genevieve Sutherns, one of the co-founders of the Guelph Box.
The boxes are part of a collaboration with a local media group, called The Progress Report, which provides educational resources on different social justice issues. Additionally, the boxes are also in part with Every Youth Counts, an event run by Wyndham House.
"We're thankful to have the platforms to be able to raise awareness for that and to support the youth," said Sutherns, "It's something we're all definitely passionate about, and we love the work that The Progress Report does, and want to support them in anyway that we can."
Since there is a limited supply of boxes available, Sutherns mentions there are other ways people can support the initiative next month.
“Sharing anything about the boxes or anything on The Progress Report pages, they're going to sharing a ton of information and educational resources for people to learn more,” she said, “So just sharing that so other people can learn and expanding their reach.”
