The Guelph & District Multicultural Festival will only have a virtual event this year.

Three months ago, the organizers announced the possibility of hosting an in-person and online festival. But due to the ongoing COVID restrictions, they decided to focus just on the online experience.

The online festival will showcase pre-recorded events from June 11 to June 13 that feature cultural performances, craft vendors, food vendors, youth talent.

“We plan to organize 12 to 15 live scheduled events, giving the audience the feel of an actual festival to be enjoyed from the comfort of your homes,” said Cinthuja Leon, executive director of the GDMF in a press release.

“Live events include the opening ceremony, four culturally diverse cooking shows, meditation sessions, kids’ activities, a world culture quiz, band performances, community member performances, etc.”

The festival already held a three-day online event from March 26 to March 28 to utilize the unused funding from last year. With the funds, they launched an online platform for the festival experience  to easily transition online.

Leon said the festival is currently accepting applications for events to feature performers, food vendors, youth and community organizations and creative ideas for live events. Those interested can contact the GDMF on their website.
