Guelph will be holding a local event as part of the international Global Climate Strike on Friday, Sept. 20.
A University of Guelph student walkout is planned prior to the rally outside Guelph City Hall from noon to 2 p.m.
Global Climate Strike events will be taking place all over the world that day and over the following week.
"Given all the very troubling climate news this past summer, of flooding, wildfires and glaciers melting, it's time to make some noise /music to show solidarity with the youth that are rising, the indigenous land and water protectors and to the many people diverse species and ecosystems affected by climate change. Guelph is rising with other communities around the globe to protect our one and only Mother Earth," said the Guelph Wellington Climate Coalition in a press release.
"Join us in our fight to demand science-based action from ALL political parties. Invite your colleagues, friends, family, clubs, and community. We need everyone."
There are a number of local events planned as part of the week-long Global Climate Strike that takes place Sept. 20 to Sept. 27.
