Guelph General Hospital launches largest capital campaign ever

'Together, We Care' campaign is just $6.4 million shy of its $34-million goal

Guelph General Hospital is turning to the community for the home stretch of its largest fundraising campaign ever.

The hospital's fundraising arm, The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital, has publicly launched its 'Together, We Care' campaign that aims to raise $34 million.

So far $27.6 million has already been raised and now the foundation is turning to the community at large for the remainder.

"The need for support for our hospital is more important than ever," said foundation chair Paul Osborne at an event launch Tuesday held at Strom's Farm.

The campaign was supposed to kick off in June but COVID delayed the official kick-off, Osborne said.

The funds raised through the Together, We Care campaign will be used in three areas:

- expansion of the hospital's emergency department including much-needed, dedicated spaces for mental health and addictions care.

- the replacing of aging equipment with innovative technologies to provide quicker, better and safer diagnosis and treatment.

- renovations and improvements to the hospital’s Special Care Nursery.

Hospital CEO Marianne Walker said that community support is fundamental in the hospital’s ability to care for the community it serves.

“Donors make an incredible difference to the care we are able to provide at Guelph General Hospital because they fund virtually every piece of patient care equipment we purchase…the tools our caregivers need to provide comfort and caring, healing and curing to our community.

"Guelph General Hospital is one of Ontario's best and safest hospitals and together we can keep it that way," said foundation CEO Suzanne Bone.

Close to $9 million in campaign funds has already been used to buy priority equipment including a CT scanner, mammography machine, scopes, infection-identifying machine, vital signs monitors, infant warmers, beds and much more.
