A pair of Guelph honeymooners who were stranded in Italy have made it back safely to Guelph.

Dave DaMaren and Bernadette Pemberton returned home Sunday.

"As promised our adventure is over and we are made it safely home yesterday and have begun our quarantine period," DaMaren said in an email.

"Thanks again to all of you who made our story know and attempted to help us."

The couple flew from Pisa to Rome and then to London, England, before getting a flight to Toronto, arriving late Sunday night.

"Alitalia and the Rome airport where pleasant, Heathrow a bit of a challenge (distance, bus delay, finding check in, etc.), but no real issues, and large cue at Pearson, but still very reasonable time through with the new questions,"  DaMaren said.

"It is great to be home, Bernie will probably be asleep for a few days."

The couple had arrived in Italy on Feb. 17, planning to tour the country. They rejigged their schedule as the severity of the COVID-19 crisis grew and had been staying with DaMaren's cousin in a small coastal town a couple of hours east of Rome.
